To open Bubbles go to Toolbox → Bubbles. Whenever you open the plugin you will see that the Select With Category Filter button is grayed out (left image), unless you had elements selected in Revit already (right image). This functionality can be also used with Select From View Filter and Select by IDs.
To activate the Select With Category Filter button just select some geometry in Revit, like you would normally do. Now in the Categories menu deselect the categories that you are not interested in and do the same below in the Types menu.
For every category selected in the Categories menu Bubbles reports the types of each category in a different menu. Each menu for the category types has an All/None option that you can use to select and deselect the items (2). Please, do not confuse it with the All/None option for the Categories (1).
To add more items to your selection in Bubbles activate the Remember Previous Items option and select them in Revit.
