Description

Due to Revit’s lack of backwards compatibility, it is necessary to upgrade all template files or all project files every time a new Revit version is deployed in the office. Upper is there to try and ease this process.

Interface

1. The Source Directory: Pick the directory that contains all files that you would like to upgrade. All files in all nested folders will be processed and the folder structure will be preserved inside your destination directory (2).

2. The Destination Directory: Pick the new directory for your upgraded content. This must be a directory different from the source directory because during the upgrade the files will be opened and once opened, can not be saved as in the same location (eg. we are upgrading from “T:\Revit 2021 Library” to “T:\Revit 2022 Library”).

3. The File Types: The file types you would like to upgrade. You do not need to upgrade all files in one go, in fact if you are upgrading your company’s entire library, it might be a good idea to do

• RFA: Family files
• RVT: Project documents
• RTE: Project templates
• RFT: Family templates

4. Other Options:

• Delete All Backup Files From The Source Directory: Checking this will delete all revit backup files that usually end up in .00XX.r from the source folder. Backup files are automatically filtered out from the upgrade process.
• Copy All Other File Types: If you have any other supporting library or project files (eg. help PDFs or family type lists) , it is recommended that you select this option.

5. The Run button. It will only become active once you have set a valid source and destination folders. When you are happy with the settings, press run to start the upgrade. Unfortunately the progress update had to be removed due to a stability issue with large upgrade sets.
