What is Octo?

Octo is a tool to assign points to elements in Revit. These points can then be used by ParaLink to link objects together and copy their parameters between them.

Octo is similar to the built-in functionality of Revit to assign points to elements, called Room Calculation Point. However, Octo is more flexible and allows you to assign points to elements that are not supported by Revit. Octo also allows you to assign multiple points to an element, while Revit only allows you to assign one.

Why use Octo?

Octo is for those cases when you want more control of how elements relate to each other. For example if you have equipment which serves more than one room, then you can use Octo to assign a point to the equipment which is located inside the rooms. Then you can use ParaLink to copy the room parameters to the equipment, or visa versa. This way you can easily get the room parameters for the equipment, even though the equipment is not located in any of the rooms.

The Octo panel is where all handling of Octo points are done. The panel is divided into several sections:

Named Storage

The first section is the Named Storage section, and is used to store and retrieve Octo points. The Octo points are stored in a named storage. Only one point per element and storage level is stored in each storage.

If you want to store multiple points for an element, you need to create multiple storages. You can rename the storage to any name you want.

To the right of the storage name are 3 buttons:
